Gideon

Meet Gideon. Gideon and I were friends this week, Monday - Thursday. I dog sat/house sat for some friends from church and took care of their Weimeraner, Gideon.

Gideon loves to go for walks, where he pulls his walker forward. We went for a walk once until I learned that lesson. Gideon loves to play outside, chew on his bone, and jump on top of you. He was fond of smothering me.

It was a nice break to spend a few days in someone else's house, get some laundry done, and take care of a dog and have company around. If only my company didn't freak out about squirrels, cats, and children playing outside....

Home again, home again, jiggity jig.

Well, the weekend was a good one. Here we are on the way home from Easter dinner, which was spectactular. And the afternoon ended with my horrific Guitar Hero skills on the drums. But I love Guitar Hero nonetheless. I just kept pushing the foot pedal at the wrong time. Glad I could be there to entertain the fam.

Unfortunately, we did not turn right to stop at the Ice Cream Capital of the World, home to Blue Bunny ice cream. Guess I'll have to go to a Twins game to get some Blue Bunny instead.

going home

Today I leave to go to Iowa, with Fields of Opportunities. And cows. Iowa's slogan used to be "You Make Me Smile." More and more Minnesota is starting to feel like home and Iowa is the place I go to visit parents, grandparents, etc.

I'll be in Iowa for the Easter weekend, but not before I make a stop in South Dakota to visit my "sister" for the evening. I imagine I'll get all the laughing I need in for the weekend when I see her. That is why I love her.

It's nice to go home every once in a while, although there are all sorts of things going on up here this weekend that I would have liked to be involved in. I guess you can't be everywhere at once.

So I pick family, friends, and a temperature about 2 degrees warmer than here.

find it, make it, do it.

Here in the Great White North (aka Minnesota), one of our news stations is WCCO. I was watching the other day and they had an ad for themselves. So, it was basically a montage of people doing things - playing in the park, working at a job, talking on the phone. The point of the ad was something to the effect of: Find what you love, make it your passion, do it passionately.

It struck me how much of a difference it can make in your life to be doing something that you enjoy or something you love. And while you can't always snap your fingers and do what you're passionate about, the little things make a big difference.

For me, I love Spanish. I would use it nonstop if I could. I am passionate about Spanish to the point where I watch all movies with Spanish subtitles, put my cell phone in Spanish, change the language on my e-mail account, and think/journal/pray in Spanish.

I've decided that means that I need to take the next step in "doing it passionately" (please don't distort that phrase into something else...) I'm not quite sure what that means yet, but it will mean something. Hold me to that.

thoughts about the job

So I'm here at work thinking about my job. I like it. Some interesting information for you about my job.

1. Next week both of the coworkers that I work with will be out of the country. One will be in Scotland and the other in Nepal. I will be flying solo for quite a bit.

2. No one really knows what exactly our name is. I glanced at the checks written today. They should be made out to "Family & Children's Service" or "FCS". 4 checks, 4 different choices: Family and Children Service. Children and Family Services. CFS. Family and Children Services. You all lose. Good thing the bank will still take the check!

3. I really like helping people. Whether it's helping them get a room set-up, giving them another appointment, or showing them how to take the bus to get to the Co-op, I really enjoy it!

4. My job will be changing in the next few weeks. In a week and a half I will start to learn how to verify insurance benefits. It will be a long process, but an exciting change in what I will be doing and another added challenge.

**I should add two more things here:

5. I love my coworkers (yes, K, that includes you!) If it weren't for them, I don't think I would stick around at the job. They make all the difference. (Just ask for crazy stories about lady friends, parking spaces, or Fabio...)

6. I love cleaning at work. Today I cleaned out our fridge and managed to take home a plunder of celery, blueberry pie, butter, and yogurt, all fresh and unclaimed after numerous warnings of a fridge purging. Made my day to come home with free food!


There you have it! A few tidbits about a job that I really enjoy and that keeps me around.

As all babies do, she did a lot of sleeping, too! She was a very well-behaved baby.

It was a fantastic vacation and I wouldn't have wanted to spend it any other way. We spend most of our days holding a baby, watching her sleep, and eating some food ourselves. Sarah and I got hair cuts on Saturday as a way of pampering ourselves, which was wonderful!

Sarah's delirium also began to show by the end of the trip when she suggested that she make smoothies for us, which contain yogurt and fruitables! We didn't let her forget that one...

here's what's new this past month...

1. My best friend had a baby! I have an honorary niece, Abigail Vonita
2. Tomorrow I leave for Oregon to visit my niece and her parents - I can't wait!
3. Possible change in job duties/promotion is in the works...it's only a matter of time!
4. Have now experienced "Hell's Kitchen" for breakfast in DT Minneapolis - it's a winner
5. Went to see "Godspell" the musical - fantastical!

A farewell.

This week we threw a farewell party for Christy, my old roommate, who left for Kenya for a year. She will be working with the Catholic Medical Mission Board, living on the edge of Lake Victoria and doing her nurse work that she is so great at.

5 girls who used to be roommates got together for the night and went out for dinner, went to Walgreens (high class, I know!), and joined some more of our friends for brownies, ice cream, banana bread, a great game of Partner Scattergories, and laughter. My tiny one bedroom apartment saw 10 people at one time...don't tell the fire marshall!
Then some people scattered and left and some of the girls stayed overnight in the apartment - we talked, caught up, and went to be plenty late for a work night. (Click on the picture for more pictures)

Wednesday morning, we all got ready and Christy went to the airport. She'll be well on her way to Kenya by now, arriving tomorrow morning our time.

it is cold, I promise

At 4:30pm this afternoon, it is -6 with a windchill of -24. By 7am tomorrow morning, it is supposed to be -22 with a windchill of -40. Fahrenheit.

Hello all.

Christmas and New Year's are done. I don't have many pictures to post because I let the rest of the family take pictures and I'm waiting to receive said pictures from them. But it was a nice restful holiday and now it's good to be back in Minneapolis.

Someone who had a fantastically exciting Christmas break was my friend Kelly, who went to Cambodia to see her sister! She has fantastic pictures posted, plus a fun little post about someone we all love when she was in the LA airport - so jealous!

Christmas Songs

Very important question here for you. What are your favorite Christmas songs? Specifically, I want one "fun" one and one "Christmassy" one (i.e. you sing it in church or whatever).

I'll start us off...

My favorite Christmassy song is "Joy to the World." I love singing harmony on that song.

My favorite fun song is "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". Check out the YouTube video...it is classic!

chow, wine, chill, gifts, sleep, work.

I am going to give you more posts more often. Because I think that's exciting.

I had a few thoughts that I wanted to share with you from the past few days...

1. Puppy chow is addicting. I never like the sound or look of it, but once I start eating it, I can't stop.

2. Wine bottles with corks are hard to open when you don't own a cork screw. I guess that's proof that I only buy Arbor Mist for myself, which has a screw cap for a lid...

3. It's cold in Minnesota in the winter. Especially when you are attempting to be dazzled by the Holidazzle parade.

4. No matter how often I say that I am going to buy less gifts this year, somehow I still have a massive list of people to buy for and I'm never sure what to get...

5. I still sleep during movies. Ones I've seen, ones I haven't seen...in my house, in the theater, at someone else's house...I have no control over my sleeping habits.

6. It's hard to work until 8pm and then have to be to work at 8am the next day.

Those are my thoughts. If you are reading this and expecting a Christmas gift from me, you might be disappointed. My words are my gift to you. Unless you get a gift from me. Then you're lucky!

bits and pieces, odds and ends

It's been a really long time since I've posted.

First, I want to share that I went to Chicago over Thanksgiving and it was FANTASTIC! I got to see my chicas from my semester abroad once more and we hung out in Allison's studio apartment, went salsa dancing, went to see Wicked, checked out the city, ate deep dish stuffed pizza, and more. It was a great weekend. Check out some of the pictures from the weekend here.

Secondly, well, I guess it's time to drop the ball. About 2 months ago I met a boy. We dated. This week we stopped dating. For the most part, I am coming around and saying that it was for the best. It was definitely a difficult decision to make (his to make), but in the end, I think I would have made the same decision. It's been interesting going through all the stages...angry, sad, regretful, questioning, angry again.

Now that it's done, I'm still glad that it happened. I'm glad because now I've had my first relationship. Now I know some more about things that I am and am not looking for in a guy. And the truth is, I think we will still be able to be friends in the end of all of this. I am hopeful for that.

These flowers that my parents sent to give me a "boost" yesterday, are also getting me into the holiday spirit:

It's been a while, I'll be the first to admit. Sorry about that.

Life has been good - my weekends have been busy filled with plenty to do. One weekend I had a retreat with the middle schoolers from church. That was a blast minus the part where I fell off a merry-go-round. Ouch. Last weekend I went home to Iowa for an extended visit, which was nice and relaxing. I got to sleep a lot, which I needed because I'd had a crazy week. Here are a few pictures of my mom and me attempting to get good pictures together...

just when I said I wouldn't go back....

I know we all say we won't go back to school...

But I'm thinking of going back to school. The University of Minnesota has a program in translation and interpretation that I'm thinking about getting involved in. It's a 2-year program where you take one night class a week. I won't be able to start until next summer or next fall (either would work - if I start in the summer I would have one semester off in the middle), but it's an exciting prospect to think about possibly going back to school and adding to my experience. And it would probably make me more marketable to the area that I'm interested in...

So anyway, that's what's new with me this week. I've been thinking about it for a while, but now I'm finally thinking in a pretty certain way that this is what I'll do. Now it's time to start saving up!

Hello Friends,

It's been a while since I've posted. I've been busy with moving, getting settled, etc. It was a good move, although long and arduous and full of muscle soreness and bruises. Reminds me that I don't want to move again any time in the near future!

Things are going well at the new apartment. I've officially been sleeping here for about a week and a half, and have been here all by myself, except for a newly discovered roommate with four legs, whiskers, and goes by the name of Mickey the Mouse. We're working on getting rid of him... ;)

I was going to post pictures, but my internet connection is horribly slow right now at home. I'm working on fixing that, or at the very least trying to find out if I can change that! Anyway, pictures will come soon...maybe this weekend or in the coming week once I can get to a better internet connection...until then you'll just have to visualize Mickey and me hanging out in my apartment, drinking tea, reading a book, and watching the slow, slow internet :)

where do I begin? it's been a crazy little while lately, but all in all, a good crazy.

my lease began at my new apartment on the 15th, so I'm slowly/quickly moving things into the apartment. I'm waiting for paint to be put on the walls, since my landlord prefers that I not do the painting myself.

last night we had our "final" roommate time together before we're all moved out. it was a great time filled with laughter, food, self-taken photos, good drinks, fun games, awesome dessert, and all 5 of us sleeping in the living room together.

one of those days

we've all had them. one of those days where it seems like nothing can go right. you get a headache because you're frustrated, you're either way too busy or not busy at all, and no one seems to do anything the way they're supposed to.

i'm having one of those days. where a fun paint project at work turned into a nightmare. where no one did their jobs and informed us of important information, making us look completely incompetent. where multiple people accused me of not doing my job, which just so happens to be 5% of my entire job duties and i'm doing the best that I can.

it makes me head hurt. it makes my coworker's stomach feel sick. and it makes me want to leave this office, go to the park, sit under a try, and have nothing to do with the world. why can't adults be competent at doing their jobs, when it's the easiest job in the world to do?

random thoughts

it's been a while since I posted. here are some things that happened since then:

- volunteered at camp for a week. Not quite sure yet if I worked more or had more fun, but it was a good experience
- hung out with some good friends. craziness. check out Facebook to see the photos of camp and craziness, combined into one.
- Mom is still up and down - we're waiting to hear on a second opinion from Mayo
- Found a new apartment! I'll be moving in between August 15th and 30th, so I'll have a nice chunk of transition time

mi mama

Most of you know...but if you don't, please pray for my mom, and here's the story:

My mom has been having headaches for over 9 weeks now. At first we thought they were just the result of jet lag and having returned from Taiwan. Soon, we realized it must be something more, since they weren't going away. After lots of tests, they finally determined she's been leaking spinal fluid from somewhere - the question is, where?

While they attempt to find out where the leak is, my mom continues on with headaches, at least one a day, and lives on pain killers. As you can imagine, it's frustrating to not be able to work or get around as easily as she would like.

Her next test is this coming Tuesday, unfortunately postponed from this week, which means even more waiting.

Please pray for her - I believe in the power of prayer and the strength in numbers. She and I will both appreciate your prayers.

1. Lawn games are a blast, especially ones easily learned

2. Trying out some soft contacts this weekend. Not so bad...yet.

3. Mosquitoes are out in full form this summer. Bug bites already in the double digits

4. Iowa should try out having more lakes, like Minnesota does.

5. Movies in the park are fun, free, and great to hang out with friends

6. Headaches are not fun, especially when had for 8+ weeks....pray for my mom

'twas the day before last

'twas my birthday on Sunday. It was a great day, filled with wonderful things:
- went to lunch with a good friend, followed by some shopping and then seeing her new place
- got a surprise visit from a family friend, including flowers ordered by my parents, delivered straight to me! They smell even better than they look :)
- went for a great walk with roommate, stopped for some wonderful ice cream, and walked back home

I also received lots of great phone calls, birthday wishes, facebook messages and notes on my wall - thank you! It was a good birthday!

time change. everyone's favorite. just came back from an excellent excursion to salem, or. it was good to see Sarah, Neil, and Denise. The last who was so kind as to drive 5 hours to see us for only 24 hours. Thanks, Denise!

Went to work at 8am this morning - woke up at 6:30, but sure felt like it was more like 4:30am! Even when it's not that big of a time change, I still feel the difference. It was a lot easier going the other way, that's for sure.

It's June now, you know. Doesn't really feel like summer to me, though. But, I'm getting some lovely visitors - both Dani and Rachel coming to see me this weekend, and I'm excited for the visit - it will be well worth it!

It seems that in the summer, people's weekends are busier. I suppose that makes sense. At least mine are busier and more filled, probably because I'm more willing to go outside.

Now, if only I can figure out how to use as little gas as possible this summer...I will be a superhero!

meet our newest roommate

Meet Rocky. Rocky decided to become our roommate this morning. After fighting/"playing soccer" in our ceiling around 5:45 this morning, Rocky managed to get into the duct work in our ceiling. After running around, my roommate opened the bathroom door and...

Rocky fell out of an open vent onto our dining room table.

That's right my friends, Rocky was in our house this morning. Ran around the dining room, the kitchen. After my roommate called our landlord, they tried to chase him out of an open window. Soon enough, Rocky was running around frantic for escape, so he ran up into my roommate's room, under the door, and introduced himself. She was not impressed, nor did she return the favor!

Rocky finally ran out of an open window, but not before traumatizing our house. We made a house decision to stay at 5 girls in the house. No squirrels. Hopefully we'll patch up some holes and finally solve this problem.

After warning from Sheriff, Family of autistic child attends different church

The mother of a 13-year-old autistic boy who was banned by a court order from attending services at a Roman Catholic church in Bertha, Minn., woke up Sunday determined to take her son to mass.

But Carol Race changed her mind when Todd County Sheriff Pete Mikkelson met her at the end of her driveway Sunday and told her she would be arrested if she brought her son, Adam, into the Church of St. Joseph.

Instead, Race took Adam and her four other children to mass at Christ the King Church in nearby Browerville, Minn. "It occurred to me that if I step foot in [St. Joseph], they will arrest me and I won't end up going to mass anyway," she said.

She is scheduled to appear in court today over a citation she received last week for violating the restraining order by taking Adam to church on Mother's Day.

The dispute has drawn attention to what Race and advocates for the disabled say is a lack of education and understanding about autism. Race said that even though her son, who is home-schooled, sometimes acts up in church, the experience benefits him.

"He has a sense of the routine," she said. "That's one of the beautiful things about the Catholic mass for autistic individuals, its routine."

The Rev. Daniel Walz, who did not return calls left at the Church of St. Joseph parish office, wrote in court documents that Adam's behavior was "extremely disruptive and dangerous." He alleged that Adam, who is more than 6 feet tall and weighs over 225 pounds, spits and urinates in church and has nearly injured children and elderly people.

In an affidavit, Walz wrote: "The parish members and I have been very patient and understanding. I have made repeated efforts through Catholic Education Ministries, Caritas Family Services, and most recently, sought to try and mediate the matter with the family to ask them to voluntarily not bring Adam to church, but it has been to no avail." The Diocese of St. Cloud said in a statement that the restraining order, issued May 9, was "a last resort."

Race said Walz's descriptions of Adam's behavior illustrate that he understands little about autistic behavior and how to address it. She said that Walz used language like "urinate" to describe an incontinence problem that Adam sometimes has which is no worse than that an elderly person or a young child might have.

Adam's parents sometimes tie his hands and feet with fabric restraints, which Race said is a technique used by other families and school personnel who work with autistic children. At Sunday's service in Browerville, Race said Adam participated in the service, kneeling with the congregation and accompanying family members when they went up front to take communion.

Carol Race said that her husband, John, attended mass at St. Joseph's on Saturday evening without his family and had stayed home Sunday morning because the family wanted to ensure that one parent would be available to care for the children if Carol were arrested.

The restraining order will remain in place for one year.

The Races haven't decided whether they will attend another parish. "My primary focus is to do the right thing, according to what God wants me to do," Carol Race said. "Without church every Sunday, my family life would have fallen apart. This is what sustains us."

Sheriff Mikkelson said he sent deputies to Sunday's service in case the Races tried to violate the restraining order.

"It was an uncomfortable thing, and we didn't want to get involved," he said. "She heeded our warning. Now, hopefully, this will get resolved through our courts."

All Creatures Great and Small?!

On the way home from Iowa this weekend, a deer and my car had a meeting. Poor Ruby Garcia took some of the damage, the damage to the deer is unknown. Didn't really want to go back and see if it was alive or dead, so I chose to just not look at all. Pictures follow of dear old Ruby, who is now at the shop getting fixed so she can be good as new.

edit: I'm okay. No harm done to human. :)



Luckily, the car was still driveable, so I was able to get all the way home and to/from work yesterday. Now I'm without a car until Monday or Tuesday of next week. Alas.

Just seems like a lot of things around me are changing:

- My coworker moved this past weekend
- My best friend is moving across the country this week
- Dordt students are graduating this week
- My sister is going to Brazil today!

Plus a lot of other good things are going on as well! It's finally spring weather, which means open windows, spring air, and the sound of the ice cream truck and kids playing outside.

Our neighbor kids were all over the place this weekend. They love the outdoors and I could hear them playing through our open windows - laughing, yelling, crying - all of the typical childhood sounds. It was downright wonderful!

On another note, if you know of anyone who needs translation/interpretation work done, I'm in the market for such work. I'm hoping to start doing more of it. I had wanted to do it at my job now, but apparently due to "legal issues", that's not allowed.

Anyway, hope you're doing well wherever you may be. Enjoy the weather, enjoy the creation. Life is good right now!

Under the Same Moon / La Misma Luna

If you can, you should go see Under the Same Moon / La Misma Luna. It's in limited release right now, but it's a fantastic movie that deals with immigration as well as family issues. It was both dramatic, stressful, touching, and romantic.

Even if it doesn't sound like your type of movie, I highly recommend it. It's in Spanish with English subtitles and was the most fantastic movie I've seen in a very long time.

Go see it.

Insanity Factors

What follows is my own personal list of factors that are bound to cause insanity at the workplace:

1. Chronic, frustrating situations: This may vary depending on your job situation, but one will find that even the smallest frustration that happens repeatedly will end up driving you crazy.

2. Working inside when the weather is nice: Increasingly, people walk into the office to tell me, "It's so nice outside," or "The sun is great". Personally, I wish they would say, "The weather outside is miserable, be glad you're inside." At least then, I wouldn't feel so quarantined.

3. Having someone call repeatedly: We have people who like to call about 8 times in 2 hours for the same person, after we've told them they're either out or unavailable. They think we don't know it's them, but we do.

4. The hang-up: Lately it's been a favorite for people to hang up on us when we call. Being suddenly disconnected when you're only trying to be helpful is just so comforting!

5. Working alone: Maybe you like it, but when I come in to work with the expectation of being with people, and then hearing "Oh, so-and-so is going to be late" or "I'm actually leaving early," and you're suddenly doing the job of 2 people...mm, what joyous fun!

6. The lack of sleep factor: Whether you didn't go to bed on time, you didn't get up on time, you could hear noises in your house, or you just couldn't sleep, that tiredness factor will get me every time. It seems like all I can think about is, "Man, I'm tired!"

7. The lack of caffeine factor: Related to the lack of sleep factor is the lack of caffeine factor. When I forget my coffee or don't drink enough, it doesn't matter how much I drink later in the day to make up for it, I'm a goner for functionality.

8. Consistent beeping noises: Today someone came to look at our security system. While he messed with it, the system beeping continuously in the background, just loud enough for me to hear and wish it would STOP, STOP RIGHT THIS INSTANT! :)

So, that's my own personal list of things that are bound to cause insanity in the workplace. Isolated incidents, they don't usually bother me. It's when all of these things happen at the same time, I start to wonder if I'm still a sane person...or maybe I've never been sane..??

when your little dreams come reality....

Yesterday:

1. Went to an 8am orientation for work downtown. After finally finding parking and getting there, I was ecstatic to know that in one short month, I can have health insurance. Dental insurance. Life insurance. Paid time off.

2. Was inspired by another new employee who talked about working for a non-profit being her dream since she'd graduated from college. I'm so thankful that I was able to get into the non-profit world faster than many.

3. Met many employees at my office - too many to remember! Every single one of them nice, ecstatic to meet me (even if they just came down for the donuts and fruit!)

4. Encouraged as my supervisor commented that I "catch on fast" and she's willing to let me learn things at my pace

5. I have a computer account and e-mail address, soon will have a direct phone number.

6. Went to a dinner for one of my volunteer places. Took a student home, she makes my day every time I see her.

7. Went to bed early, only to realize my work day doesn't start until 10am!

It's a good start to the week, didn't encounter "a case of the Mondays" - my pipe dream of working for a non-profit has finally come to truth. It will be a long road still, but there I am.

the times, they are a changin'

Hello friends.

I have exciting news for you! I will be starting a new job 2 weeks from Monday! I just found out yesterday that I got a job with a non-profit agency working as the front desk receptionist/hotline answerer.

So, that means, without having to go into major explanation, that I have 2 weeks off before I start a new job! I'll be seeing my dad, going to LA to see brother and sister-in-law, and then my best friend and almost-sister will be coming to see me right before I start my job!

I'm super excited and would love to post more about it later, but I thought I would let fellow readers know that I'm switching jobs! And, thanks to those of you who put up with a lot of complaining, tears, and frustration. Hopefully that will be gone from my life in regards to my job for a while!

a real-life anecdote:

For those of you looking for some humor, give this one a try:

As of yesterday afternoon, my boss tells everyone that we'll be having our "Holiday Party" on Tuesday night. This hereby qualified as our 28 hours' notice. He tells us vaguely that we'll be going to "Buca" although he doesn't know where. We'll be leaving at 5pm.

At 5pm, we're waiting in the front of the office for our boss to show up. A variety of people have either real or made-up excuses as to why they are not coming. The rest of decide we want the free food. We soon discover that our boss is in the other room getting a chiropractic adjustment. So we have to wait for him in order to go.

Then, deducing that only he knows how to get to the restaurant, the rest of us agree to follow him. Being the entirely individualistic society that we are, WE ALL TAKE SEPARATE CARS. That's right, separate cars.

We then proceed to follow my boss, who puts on his hazard lights for the entire trip, going roughly 20 mph in a 40mph zone. On our way there, we then turn around in a random parking lot, him leading with 4 cars behind him, following.

We eventually arrive at the restaurant to eat Italian (which tasted very good, by the way!), but not before laughing at how ridiculous we were!

A very merry 2 days after Christmas and not quite New Year's wish to all of you.

I hope your Christmas was great or is going well! Mine was quite lovely - I managed to get home, hang out with family, see some good friends, eat much too much food, and hear Pastor Herm preach twice!

Things are pretty much back to normal over here - I'm back to work again, which was a little rough after having 4 days off, but it's not going too badly :) I got a new camera for Christmas, so you'll be seeing some fun pictures up here when I get the chance to take them off my computer!

Other than that, life moves on. I'm working a lot, but I enjoy my job so it's all good.

We're getting our 5th roommate this weekend. She's nice, so I'm excited to see how things work out. It will be an adjustment, but I think a good one.

I was thinking the other day... do you ever buy things on sale just because they are on sale? I have a pair of jeans that I bought on sale that I never really wear. I think I may have bought them, not even needed jeans, for the sole fact that they were so cheap. Anyone else do that? Anyone else do that with things other than clothes?

Internet is here! We finally have internet at our house, wirelessly nonetheless. As of 9:45pm tonight, I can now check-a my e-mail, post-a on my blog, and have-a smile! So, you can e-mail me in the hoardes. Comment frivolously. I shall be here to read, respond, and recycle!

In other news... I've changed positions at my job. I will now be working in the clinic as the receptionist/office manager. Things changed because of some other employee-related things, but it's all good on my end, because now I have the job that I originally applied for, plus I understand my boss better, so I think it's great. Plus, I don't have to dress up for work anymore - I have scrubs to wear! Hooray! No more dressy clothes that eat my money fund!

So, all is good over here. How are you?

I spent the weekend in Sheboygan with Sarah and Rosh. It was fantastick.

Not just any place...

Well, friends, I sit in the coffee shop for what may just be the last time to pilfer internet.

That's right, we have promise of internet next week. We got the official flyer in the mail this week and they say they can get it going for us. 2 months later, it's finally going to happen! I am feeling much excitement, and quite thusly enjoy talking in such manner.

And, I'm going to a Halloween Parade today. And not just any parade...a parade in the Halloween Capital of the World.

That's right. Maybe they're self-proclaimed like LeMars and their ice cream, but it's quite exciting to be going. Although, it's a tad chilly out, so that is not the highlight of the day, but I'm quite excited for the parade. Apparently they throw out free candy. Hoorah.

Well, then, I shall go and get groceries before going to the parade in...where was that? Oh, yes...the Halloween Capital of the World.

friends, it's been over 5 weeks since I moved to my home in Minneapolis.

I have something monumental to share with you:

I have plans this weekend!

That's right. I am hanging out with some friends this weekend (no, they're not my roommates) as well as spending some time volunteering.

I'm so excited, as you can probably tell. I've not been very proactive, but a new potential friend took the initiative, called me up, and said, "Come hang out."

So, it's all working out in its own time. I'm so happy now, plus I have tomorrow off of work :)

I'm writing this because I'm taking a much needed morning break. Yesterday I probably called over 180 doctors, some of whom I had to call back.

Today will mark 40 hours of work this week. Lucky me, I'm working this weekend, too.

At least I get Monday off. And probably more time off because I'll work more than 8 hours this weekend.

I hope you're all doing well. While I may be making many phone calls, I do have a job and I'm not making phone calls 40 hours a week for the rest of my life. Because then I would quit.

Good/God things are happening:

- I've been at my job for 10 official work days.
- Volunteers came and painted at our house yesterday...goodbye aqua stairs!
- I found a church I enjoy
- I've met people at church and played dutch bingo...of course they're either from or know people from NW Iowa!
- All of my stuff is finally unpacked and "in its place" in my bedroom. I'm really happy with how my desk looks.


Now all we need is internet at our place and we'll be golden. They say it will probably be another 2-3 weeks. Sigh. It will be worth all the money we save, though.

I have a job!

I was called in for an interview today with an office that does MRI Imaging - I faxed them my resume almost a month ago, so I had actually forgotten about them... Anyway, the interview was this afternoon and after a long and somewhat random interview, I was offered the job, full time, in the wage range I was looking for!

So, I'll be the assistant (mostly administrative?) to the owner of the office, starting tomorrow morning at 10am! I'm sure I'll have more details later, but for now I'm just super excited to finally have employment!

I'm currently spending plenty of time in coffee shops, trying to get internet access and look for jobs. The church job didn't pan out, they chose someone else... so now I'm applying for temp jobs and coffee jobs and hoping that something will turn up. Life marches on, my friends.

Crazy week!

thoughts running through my head...

- the house is official!
- I move in 11 days!
- I have things all over the basement. It looks like an earthquake hit, boxing up some things but not others.
- I worked 40 hours last week. Hopefully 20 this week.
- There are so many people to see before I leave. Are you included? Have I not had coffee or hung out with you yet?
- Is this all real, or is it a dream?
- I've submitted 10 resumes last week, 5 this week. Will something turn into something?

That's all I've got! My head is pure randomness, and I always seem to keep busy in some manner or another!

Well friends, here's the house I'll probably be living in in Minneapolis! It's kind of hard to get an idea without seeing the inside, but you get the idea...we'd be living in the 2nd and 3rd floors!

Well, I'm home now for about three to four weeks.

I wasn't sure if I'd have enough to do, but it seems that between unpacking, repacking, patched together work hours, job searching, and errand-running, there's more than plenty to do. Good. I feel useful then.

Know anyone in Minneapolis who would have good job search advice or be willing to let me know when they hear of something good coming up? Let me know...I'm looking!

i had my interview on Friday. i find out this week hopefully soon. i don't want to talk about how it went anymore. it was in spanish. the end.

july!

Well, my calendar says that it's July 2nd already. It's hard to believe. I feel like May and June were such a blur, but here July is, ready to go. I think I'm ready for it to go, too.

I have an interview in Minneapolis this week, on Friday. It's a second round interview. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time, but it's kind of amazing that I've made it to the second round of something. So I'll be going there at the end of this week!
